Giant Steps in database translation
At Weblations, we've been localizing the databases associated with web sites for over two years now. But frankly, the more database experience we gained, the more dissatisfied we grew with our own methods. We realized that we were applying a laborious, one-off project engineering method to projects that in fact had many points in common. To meet your scheduling needs, we needed to radically streamline our database procedures. During the summer, we moved from analysis to implementation and took two giant steps forward. First, we extended Cypher to handle Microsoft Access® (*.mdb) type databases in their native format. Now, we can manage Access databases as rapidly as we manage HTML files, while maintaining machine-enforced data integrity. You need only send us the database and we'll handle the rest. Second, we extended Cypher to handle any other database application (Oracle®, Microsoft SQL Server®, Informix®, etc.) on an import-export basis. No matter what database you use, you need only export the tables to a delimited text file, and later import the translated text file that we return to you. Our flagship application Weblations Cypher® now treats databases like any other content on the Web. Just as Cypher can extract (and later replace) the text from any web-compatible file format, it can work with any web-compatible database. Using Cypher directly on databases is not only faster, it allows us to apply Cypher Version Control and Memory across an entire project, including HTML files, scripts and the database. Equally, we can now apply the Weblations Workspace® with its multilingual glossary and other professional translation tools to database content. With our new database capabilities, we continue to stretch our technology lead over the competition. Our secret? We focus on only one goal - to design, use and improve proprietary solutions that deliver higher quality, more rapid web site translations to you, the world's most innovative and demanding customers. Recent project news Since our last update in June, we've delivered seven web site projects in a cumulative total of 40 target languages. On our clients page you can link from the info icons to descriptions of our role in each of over 50 web site localization projects. You'll see that no matter what your production scenario is, we've probably been there and done that before. We're especially proud of one achievement. This summer we localized sections of the IBM web site for three of its six agencies of record: iXL, Modem Media. Poppe Tyson and OgilvyInteractive. Each competing agency, through separate offices in New York, London and Madrid, independently selected Weblations as its localization specialist for their most important account. Shouldn't you?
